On Tuesday May 29, during an official ceremony held at IKMAA’s Erbil Head Quarters, the final merger of IKMAA and GDMA was formally announced by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Imad Ahmad.
Minister of Finance and Economy Mr. Bayiz Talabani, Minister of Planning Dr. Ali Sindi and Minister of Justice Mr. Sherwan Haidari also attended this ceremony. The new entity is entitled “Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Agency” (IKMAA) as per the provisions of the KRG Law No. 10 approved in 2007.
Mr. Siraj Barzani has been appointed as Head of the unified IKMAA at Minister level and Mr. Ali Hamad Wossu has been appointed as Deputy Head of IKMAA at Deputy Minister level.
The new unified IKMAA will have jurisdiction over all three governorates of the Kurdistan Region as well as the Garmian Administration. As per the Law No. 10 approved in 2007, IKMAA will have four mine action centers in Erbil, Sulaimanyah and Duhok Governorates and the Garmian Administration.
